Southwestern Eye Center is committed to helping each community it serves meet their healthcare needs through its sister nonprofit organization, the Southwestern Medical Foundation. Contributions to the foundation help provide college scholarships as well as funding for charitable missions throughout Central America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Europe. These missions have provided surgeries for thousands of people in great need, and have served as vehicles for education and equipping of surgeons in those areas whose access to equipment and training in modern techniques is limited.
In 2004, Dr. Bluth was honored by his home town, Nuevo Casa Grandes in Chihuahua, Mexico. As a token of the community's appreciation for the many years of service he and other Southwestern Eye Center doctors and staff had given there, a street was named Dr. Lothaire Bluth.
Closer to home and in partnership with organizations like Salvation Army, Southwestern Eye Center hosts an Annual Sight Day in which free eye exams and glasses are provided to those in our community unable to afford care.
