In order to provide all of our patients with the best possible vision correction results, our eye surgeons at Southwestern Eye Center utilize the latest, state-of-the-art laser technology to deliver safe, precise results. At Southwestern Eye Center we perform all LASIK laser eye vision correction procedures with the leading-edge Wave Scan Technology – Custom Vue STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser that was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing objects in space.
This advanced laser allows us to develop individualized treatment plans by capturing unique imperfections in each individual’s vision and producing a detailed map of the eye, which is later used to correct even the smallest corneal flaws. With Wave Scan Technology – Custom Vue STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser, there is no need for incisions, dilation and laser tracks on the natural pupil. In addition, the Star S4 IR Excimer Laser conserves tissue by minimizing treatment time, and therefore the effect on the cornea. This leads to minimal discomfort and a speedy recovery.
Using only the most sophisticated laser technologies, our eye surgeons are able to deliver unsurpassed accuracy that often leads to 20/20 vision or better, thus completely eliminating dependency on traditional prescription eyewear. Southwestern Eye Center is pleased to offer all-laser LASIK with the use of IntraLase technology.
During IntraLase surgery, our LASIK surgeon uses the iFS Advanced Femtosecond Laser (in lieu of a surgical blade) to create the corneal flap. The IntraLase laser passes ultra-precise pulses of light through the cornea, creating a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles directly below the surface of the cornea. Then, the surgeon separates the tissue where the bubbles have formed, creating the corneal flap. The flap is then folded back so the underlying tissue can be reshaped with the excimer laser. This step takes about 15 to 30 seconds.
IntraLase technology has safely been used on millions of LASIK patients since its inception. One of the biggest advantages to IntraLase is that it virtually eliminates the possibility of flap complications. Additionally, it is a quick and practically pain-free procedure. Most patients achieve clear, crisp vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
IntraLase patients generally report exceptional outcomes, including clearer vision in low light conditions (e.g., driving at dusk or nighttime). This can be attributed to the precise way the IntraLase laser creates a smooth surface after the flap is lifted; in traditional LASIK, the blade can leave a rougher surface, which affects the quality of postoperative vision.
You may be a candidate for all-laser LASIK if you meet the following criteria:
