Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are one of the most common causes of vision changes as we age. If your vision has become cloudy, dim, or blurry, you may be experiencing a cataract.

What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye. Over time, proteins in the lens break down, leading to blurred or dull vision. Most patients describe cataract vision as looking through a foggy window or dim lighting.

Cataracts do not go away on their own; cataract treatment ultimately requires surgery to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens.

What is Cataract Surgery?

Cataract surgery is a type of lens replacement surgery where the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This restores clarity and can also correct vision issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

The most common method is phacoemulsification, where ultrasound energy gently breaks up the cataract before it is removed.
