An ophthalmologist specializes in advanced eye care and treatments designed to restore vision and health to your eyes. Often optometrists refer patients to ophthalmologists for a specialized opinion, surgery, medications, and a variety of other options. Our ophthalmologists are proficient in multiple specialties and perform surgeries to help treat common conditions like Cataracts and Glaucoma. They also specialize in conditions of the Retina, Cornea and Eyelid.
Ophthalmologists can diagnose a variety of diseases and strive to find a treatment plan that works for you. If you need eye surgery for any reason, it will also be an ophthalmologist who performs the surgery.
Consider the following questions when meeting with an ophthalmologist:
If you are considering surgery, you can ask our ophthalmologists and their teams any questions about expectations before, during and after your surgery to help make you feel comfortable and make the process run smoothly.
Our ophthalmologists stay on top of advancements in technology that can better serve our patients.
Whether you are being evaluated for surgery or are being seen for the ongoing treatment of a condition, be sure to ask our doctors what you can do to maintain good vision, whether that be lifestyle adjustments, medication or a more strategic treatment plan.
Optometrists specialize in optometry, dealing primarily with vision and common problems with the eyes. They diagnose, treat, write new and updated prescriptions and help their patients manage conditions. Optometrists also track many ongoing eye problems like cataracts and dry eyes, and can suggest corrective treatment options to deal with these issues.
When you go to get your vision checked, optometrists are the doctors who usually examine your eyes, check your vision and prescribe glasses or contacts. They also offer advice and treatments to improve your vision, and may also talk over alternatives like LASIK eye surgery depending on your conditions and questions.
Consider the following questions when speaking to your optometrist:
If you are getting updated prescriptions or are monitoring existing conditions, you can discuss the changes in your vision and anything you have noticed since your last appointment.
While a free LASIK consultation will evaluate if you are a candidate for surgery, you can ask your optometrist to answer questions you might have before a consultation.
If you have been monitoring the development of cataracts and are noticing increasing blurriness or difficulty seeing at night, you should discuss your symptoms with your doctor to determine if you should be evaluated for Cataract Surgery.
Our expert eye doctors and surgeons each have accolades and specialty training. If you have not been directly referred, you will need to be evaluated by one of our optometrists before seeing one of our ophthalmologists so that if you require specialized treatment or surgery, you are placed with the correct doctor. Please be aware that to best serve you in a timely and convenient manner, we may suggest you see doctors with more availability at a location near you.
