Brennan M. Boyd, MD is a board-certified Ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained Retina Specialist. At American Vision Partners, he provides comprehensive vitreoretinal care, including medical treatment for diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusion, laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy and retinal tears, and surgical treatment for floaters, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, vitreous hemorrhage, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, intraocular lens exchange, and secondary IOL implantation.

Education and Medical Training

Dr. Boyd earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Human Physiology and Molecular Biology from the University of Arizona, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Louisville, where he gained high-volume clinical and surgical experience, including premium cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Dr. Boyd then completed a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at Associated Retina Consultants, focused on the diagnosis and management of complex retinal diseases and advanced procedures such as intravitreal injections, retinal laser therapies, and the breadth of vitreoretinal surgery techniques.

Accolades

Dr. Boyd was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, given to the top 10% of medical students. During his medical training he routinely scored in the top 5% of test takers on national board examinations. Dr. Boyd received Distinction in research from the University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson, where he authored multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications and delivered numerous scientific presentations in the field of ophthalmology, with a focus on macular degeneration and refractive surgery screening.

His additional honors include an ARVO Travel Grant, ARVO Hot Topic Abstract recognition, a Commitment to Underserved People leadership award, and an NIH summer research fellowship grant. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Boyd is committed to advancing ophthalmic innovation through clinical research, expanding access to care through charitable and international medical outreach, and contributing to physician education through teaching, guest lectures, and clinical training programs.

Personal Interests

Outside of medicine, Dr. Boyd enjoys spending time with his family and friends, exercising, listening to podcasts, reading, watching Arizona Wildcat basketball, traveling, playing table tennis and billiards, and discovering new restaurants and coffee shops.
