What is LASIK Eye Surgery?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea—the clear front surface of the eye—to improve how light focuses on the retina.

LASIK is commonly used to treat:

  • Nearsightedness (myopia) – difficulty seeing objects at a distance
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia) – difficulty seeing objects up close
  • Astigmatism – blurred or distorted vision caused by an irregular corneal shape

Find Out If LASIK Eye Surgery Is Right For You

LASIK is a popular brand for vision correction, but not everyone is automatically a candidate.

You may be a good candidate for LASIK if you:

  • Are 18 years or older

  • Have a stable glasses or contact lens prescription

  • Have healthy corneas with adequate thickness

  • Do not have uncontrolled eye conditions such as advanced glaucoma or corneal disease

  • Are not pregnant or nursing

  • Have realistic expectations about what LASIK can and cannot correct
