Dr. Charles David Mayron, MD, FACS specializes in medical, laser, and surgical therapy of diseases of the Retina Choroid and Vitreous.
Dr. Mayron completed a fellowship at the University of Virginia Department(UVA) of Ophthalmology and has expertise in the management of diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, intraocular tumors, and uveitis. Dr. Mayron’s research has been presented at national ophthalmologic meetings and published in medical journals.
Prior to his medical education, Dr. Mayron received research scholarships. He received the prestigious Josiah Macy awards from Columbia College in biological sciences to do research.
He received his undergraduate education at Columbia College, Columbia University with a concentration in Art History awarded phi beta kappa, and graduated magma cum laude. Dr. Mayron completed his medical education at New York University. After an internship in Internal Medicine at Morristown Memorial Hospital an affiliate of Columbia Physicians and Surgeons Medical School, he went on to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at New York University Medical Center being a chief resident at the prestigious Bellevue Hospital.
He was an instructor at UVA and an assistant professor of ophthalmology at WVU. where was acting director of the retina service and fellowship. He was the director of Diabetes 2000 for West Virginia. He directed the West Virginia outreach in rural health care in ophthalmology getting care in diabetic retinopathy for the economically disadvantaged. As a leader in communication with the primary care the goal was to close the loop so care could be coordinated.
He then was in practice in New York State and after his 3 sons moved away, he has now wanted to work at Southwestern Eye Center with a fellow residency colleague reuniting over 3 decades later. He and his wife Lisa now call Scottsdale their home.
Dr. Mayron is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Mayron was a pioneer in telemedicine in West Virginia and now connecting with colleagues virtually. He is an avid pickleball player and finds Arizona a perfect place to be.
